STRATEGIES FOR OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION

STRATEGIES FOR OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday. NAPOLEON HILL Until you take action, what ever goals you set this year will bear no fruit. Round and round we go when we don’t act, and soon we will stand before a logjam of un-actioned decisions. No matter how much we may dread what we have to do, we really have no choice but to act. For it is only action that will bring the longed for relief. Don’t you dare postpone your decisions. Three Strategies for Overcoming Procrastination Be clear and vocal about the reason/s behind your goals. Use visual reminders to focus your attention on key tasks. Take one small step toward each goal each day. BE A STORY WORTH...
MY BEST SKIN HEALTH AND SKIN CARE TIPS

MY BEST SKIN HEALTH AND SKIN CARE TIPS

What makes people look youthful is the quality of their skin … NIGELLA LAWSON Your skin is a vital and the most looked at organ on your body and should be treated with care. Every twenty years your skin reveals your treatment of it, the environment’s treatment of it and it’s chronological age. It prominently shows any signs of ageing; wrinkles, loss of elasticity, uneven skin tone, etc., for every one to see. The good news is that a healthy diet, the right skin care products and lifestyle choices can improve the appearance of your skin. The greater news is that you can actually repair some of the damage that has already been done with a good skin care regime. Please see below my best tips for caring, protecting and rejuvenating your skin, especially your face – the most exposed part of your skin. My best skin health and skin care tips are: Rest: Seven to eight hours sleep a night makes your skin look radiant and better than any skin cream can. Diet: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to hydrate your skin (about six to eight glasses), and to cleanup your system, so that toxins don’t buildup. Fruits, grains and vegetables keep blood moving through your skin. There is a clear connection between healthy skin and good circulation. Stay away from dehydrating elements such as alcohol and smoking: Monitor your alcohol consumption. For healthy skin, you should not drink more than three units per day. A large glass of wine at lunch or dinner is three units. After that, drink water. If you drink, choose red wine. Red wine...
WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE YOUR LIFE NEXT?

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE YOUR LIFE NEXT?

Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved. WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN                                                       Life boils down to two simple options: to act or to react. To act: To actively create your life by developing your talents into abilities, seeking and finding opportunities that serve your vision and purpose, and building value for yourself and others in the world around you. To react: To drift along with muddled thinking, taking your talents and abilities for granted, constantly reacting to whatever knocks you may experience, and hoping that something may finally fall into place. What I’m trying to say is that our lives will only go where we direct it. Without direction, we fall into the trap of letting life happen to us, with a resulting overwhelming despair and hopelessness. You have the power to choose the life you want. So where are you going to take your life next? BE A STORY WORTH...
LIVE PURPOSEFULLY

LIVE PURPOSEFULLY

You are where you are right now because of the actions you’ve taken or the inaction you’ve taken. STEVE MARABOLI As we begin a new year, the first thing we need to do is to take responsibility for where we are in life at this moment. “Last year was so hard. Last year was impossible”, we cry. “I hope this year brings better things”, we plead. But last year can be chalked up to the actions we’d taken and the inactions we’d taken. And this year will also be chalked up to the actions we will take and the inactions we will take. Many times the real reason behind our actions or inactions are simply because we felt like it, we just didn’t feel like it or we couldn’t help it.  Yes, we may not be responsible for the storms we’ve faced in our lives, but we are responsible for our response to the storms. We are responsible for where we are today.  For it is our ability to choose our actions and our responses that separates us from animals. Unlike animals, We, You and I, are bigger than our problems. We’ve more power than we think we have. As the Television Mogul and Actress, Oprah Winfrey said, “In every tragedy, there is a moment when there is a possibility for triumph.” Whatever you may face this year, be ready to seize your moment. This year, let your actions and inactions be led by your vision for your life, not  by storms or circumstances. Circumstances can’t be blamed for the direction of our lives. It is us who decide our greater future. Live...
JOHN STEZAKER, FALL XII AND FALL XIII, 1992: REVIEW BY MONALISA CHUKWUMA

JOHN STEZAKER, FALL XII AND FALL XIII, 1992: REVIEW BY MONALISA CHUKWUMA

The moment you recognise a face, it disrupts the picture. JOHN STEZAKER  Sensual, luminous and intimate are not words that I’d often use to describe the Fine Art Nudes of many contemporary male artists. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself using these words easily today to describe the impressive and innovative pair of nudes by last year’s winner of the Deutsche Börse prize, British conceptual artist and master of collage, John Stezaker, which are currently on display in an intimate room at the Contemporary Art Society, 59 Central Street, London, EC1V 3AF. The pair of images titled Fall XII and Fall XIII; both 1992, were bought for York Art Gallery through the Contemporary Art Society Acquisition Scheme, 2012, with support from the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The images are displayed alongside a small selection of works from York’s collection, including two oil paintings by William Etty and a photographic emulsion on plywood by Helen Chadwick. John Stezaker’s images reflects a unique artistic purpose. John uses parts of two different pictures to create a collage that tells a unique story. These pair of images reflects his signature style and are inspired by Arthur Thomspson’s book, ‘Anatomy for Art Students.’ With fine Art nudes, my view is that less is always very much more. The nude as subject matter, is best translated or represented as nature intended, with minimal frippery. The great thing about John’s Fall XII and XIII is that there intimate scale and minimal production values allow the images to speak for themselves, immediately grabbing and holding there viewer’s attention. Irrespective of there modest dimensions,...

PRE-SHOPPING PREPARATION

PRE-SHOPPING PREPARATION

Buying well means buying once. TIM GUNN. As with any important investment, success is more likely with good preparation. Every successful shopping trip begins with some preparation. Good clothes are expensive. Investing in the wrong items means both time and money wasted. My advice for every shopping trip is to precede with an inventory of your wardrobe. Knowing what is in your wardrobe will help you work out what you need. Try on any garment that you are uncertain about. If a garment doesn’t fit properly or if the colour is unflattering, give it to charity. Pick out all the items that are flattering and tells the story of your personal brand and make a note of any other pieces of clothing that would enhance them; Next, Take a look at current fashion trends in fashion magazines or websites. Don’t be seduced by a trend. Concentrate on elements of the trends that work for your personal style and brand; Next, Make a detailed list of what you need and want to wear in the current or forthcoming season. Be clear of your requirements for each item; colour, style, quality, quantity, etc; Next, Make a note of items that you want to go with something that is already in your wardrobe. Be clear of your requirements for these items – colour, style, quality, quantity, etc. Your image tells your story, M...
